Kilgore Gifted Center brings home awards from the Virginia Theatre Association Conference competition


The Kilgore Gifted Center drama department brought their fall one-act play, Safetown, to the One-Act Competition at the Virginia Theatre Association (VTA) Conference on Saturday, October 28, and returned home with awards.


The show won a Platinum rating, the highest designation which is only given to the top two schools. Richard Dietz, Cassidy VanSciver, Donovan Chess, and Zuri Jawneh were selected for Best Actor awards.


The cast was comprised of Richard Dietz, Zuri Jawneh, Cassidy VanSciver, Isabella Silva, Ella Daniels, Donovan Chess, Morgan Hanley, Madison Falvo, and Briana Smith. Ashlynn Cummings, Brenya Nowicki, Joey Leach, Jocelyn Amodeo, Joselyn Brown, Caylyn Dryden, Rowan Johnson, Walter Kelley, Brooklyn Murray, Zoie Rogers, Zoey Studley, and Miah Woods served as stage crew. The show was directed by Amanda Galloway (director and Kilgore music teacher)  and Sydney Miller (student director).


Principal Paul Lawrence stated, “I'm very proud of our talented students for their outstanding achievements at VTA! Their dedication, hard work, and exceptional skills were evident onstage. Their success is a testament to their commitment, as well as the dedication of the Kilgore staff and families who made this performance possible.”
