HCS students excel at the Virginia/North Carolina Acrobatic Gymnastics State Championships

Kecoughtan High School student Korbyn Froneberger, Kecoughtan student Camerin Banks, Spratley Gifted Center sixth grader Alla Demyanyuk, Spratley sixth grader Terra Froneberger, and Spratley fourth grader Losha Demyanyk recently participated and earned gold and silver medals at the Virginia/North Carolina Acrobatic Gymnastics State Championships.

After competing virtually for most of the season, these acrobats did an amazing job at their first in-person meet, receiving the Gold medal in the Level 8 Women's Group (Alla), Gold in the Level 7 Men's pair (Losha), and Silver in the Level 7 Women's Group (Korbyn and Terran). Camerin placed second in the Women’s pair. By attending the state championships, they are able to compete on May 15 and 16, 2021, at the Region 7 Acrobatics Championships which will be held at Atlantic Coast Tumbling in Newport News, VA. These athletes will compete against other teams from North Carolina, Maryland, and Delaware.

Acrobatic Gymnastics, Acro for short, combines the beauty of dance and the strength of gymnastics in a partner sport that displays grace, strength, flexibility, and excitement. Athletes perform routines on a 40×40 spring floor in one of the following: Men’s Pair, Women’s Pair, Mixed Pair, Women’s Group (3) or Men’s Group (4). Athletes progress through recreational levels (1-3) to compulsory levels (4-7), then to optional levels (8-elite). More information on the Regional Championships can be found here.

Congratulations to Korbyn, Camerin, Alla, Terra, and Losha and good luck in your next competition.
