Hampton City Schools names new Chief of Elementary School Leadership & Compensatory Programs

During their meeting on June 16, 2021, the Hampton School Board appointed Dr. Stacia Barreau as the chief of elementary school leadership & compensatory programs for Hampton City Schools (HCS). She will assume her duties on July 1, 2021.

As the chief officer of elementary school leadership & compensatory programs (COE), Dr. Barreau will lead efforts to improve student learning through the direct supervision of school administrators. She will be responsible for supporting, guiding, problem solving, and coaching school administrators in instructional leadership, building a positive and effective school culture, and management of personnel. In addition, in this position, she will guide, support, coach, and develop school administrators with instructional practices that support the mission and vision of the division. Other duties will include being directly responsible for assisting a school during any re-focusing efforts to improve a school’s leadership, culture, systems, structures, instructional practices and philosophies. Dr. Barreau will be a member of the division leadership team and is responsible for developing, planning, implementing and evaluating the federally funded grant programs for Title I and Title II.

Dr. Barreau comes to Hampton from Williamsburg-James City County where she served as the director of special education since 2014. She is also a leadership coach/specialist with the Urban Leadership and Learning Center and an adjunct professor in educational leadership at Old Dominion University. Dr. Barreau has served in the role of principal in both Williamsburg and Hampton and assistant principal and instructional specialist for student services in York County. She began her career as a special education teacher in Newport News.

Dr. Barreau earned her Bachelor of Arts from Hampton University, her Master of Science in education from Old Dominion University, and a doctor of education from the College of William & Mary.
