HCS book distribution is big success

Hampton City Schools held a free book distribution on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, for students in PreK through 12th grade. Each student was allowed to select two books.

We are excited to share that approximately 4,000 books were distributed to approximately 600 families during the event. The books were donated by Scholastic, one of the division’s community partners.

“The book distribution was a huge success for Hampton City Schools families,” said Kelli Cedo, HCS K-12 language arts curriculum, instruction, and assessment lead. “As we distributed books, the caregivers and students were thanking all of the teacher librarians and literacy leaders for providing this wonderful opportunity. Families shared how much fun it was to pick out a book together. The English language arts department staff members were so excited to see so many families and students during the distribution. It was a beautiful site to see students smiling ear to ear when they left with their free books.”

We thank our teacher librarians, the English language arts department, and Kroger for this successful endeavor to help our students kick off their summer with books!
