Hampton City Schools names Title I Director of Instruction, Accountability, and Learning Support

During their meeting on July 7, 2021, the Hampton School Board appointed Dr. Bryce Johnson as the Title I director of instruction, accountability, and learning support for Hampton City Schools (HCS). He will assume his duties on July 8, 2021.

As the Title I director of instruction, accountability, and learning support, Dr. Johnson will oversee division wide Title I instructional programs. He will work with the elementary school leaders and curriculum departments to coordinate programs. He will serve as a resource and advisor to principals and teachers regarding Title I instructional programs and assist teachers in the improvement of instructional performance. Additionally, he will work cooperatively with school leaders, leadership teams and Title I instructional staff in analyzing and organizing data and creating school data systems for the purpose of informing instructional practices and promoting high levels of student achievement. Other duties will include but are not limited to coordinating with organizational effectiveness/professional learning to develop and deliver technical assistance and professional learning for school administration and teaching staff for Professional Learning Communities, leadership, instruction and/or assessment. 

Dr. Johnson has been the principal at Tyler Elementary School for the past three years. Prior to Tyler Elementary, Johnson spent five years as the principal at Bassette Elementary School. He joined HCS in 2005 as an assistant principal at Hampton High School and then served as an assistant principal at Phenix PreK-8 School. Prior to HCS, Johnson taught for six years in Newport News Public Schools.

He earned a bachelor’s in science education from Asbury College, a master’s in educational leadership from Old Dominion University, and a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Old Dominion University.
