Hampton City Schools earns national recognition for newsletter and videos

The public relations and marketing department of Hampton City Schools received three merit recognitions from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) 2021 Publications and Digital Media Awards program. NSPRA’s Publications and Digital Media Excellence Awards recognize outstanding education publications, e-newsletters, digital media programs, radio/TV/video programs, social media, infographics, blogs and websites.

The first award-winning entry was HCS’s e-newsletter, Be Safe. Be Well. Be Informed. This e-newsletter has been distributed internally to staff in Hampton City Schools each week this school year. This staff e-newsletter provided information and updates as they related to COVID-19 and division expectations as well as tools and resources on ways for staff members to meet their social and emotional needs.

The second entry that received recognition was the Hampton Reads One Book video series. This series captured the division-wide book Lola Levine is Not Mean! and included eight videos featuring guest readers throughout the school division and Hampton community.

The final winning entry was the Welcome Back Hampton City Schools video for the 2020-2021 school year. Individual videos using celebrities through Cameo were created and placed on social media the day before the first day to welcome back students and staff. All of the videos for both winning entries were created and produced in-house through PEG Television. PEG is the home of WHCS (Cox 46/Verizon 20) and LSC 48 led by director Andy Foley.

The public relations and marketing department is under the direction of executive director Kellie Goral.

NSPRA, recognized as the leader in school communication, has honored the best work in school communication for more than 50 years.
