Smith Elementary School receives $1,500 grant from Community Knights

Tamiko Barnes, family engagement specialist at Smith Elementary School, recognized a need for students at her school and took action to resolve it. Barnes said, “as students leave for summer break, many of our students will lose what they have learned during the school year, so I decided to apply for a grant through Community Knights.”

The funds from the $1,500 grant are being used to purchase materials for packets that are distributed to the students. The packets, based on grade level, help students achieve their goals and academic achievement by keeping them learning throughout the summer.
