Cooper Elementary Magnet School for Technology raises over $2,700 for Pennies for Patients

Students and staff at Cooper Elementary Magnet School for Technology exceeded their goal of $1,000 by raising over $2,700 for Pennies for Patients. The program, sponsored by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), is designed to engage students with LLS and their mission through age appropriate philanthropy. Pennies for Patients takes place in hundreds of schools in honor of local blood cancer survivors.

Cooper was very fortunate to have one teacher who matched the amount her students raised – over $900. In addition, one third grader, James Freeman raised $675 among his family. The winning class (Ms. Palen’s class) received a free meal to Olive Garden. As another incentive, assistant principal Sandra Taylor allowed the winning class to spray her from head to toe with silly string.

“We are super excited about the Pennies for Patients Campaign every year,” said Cooper counselor Maya Richardson. “Each year the students are mega excited to raise money for such a good cause. This year our goal of $1,000.00 was beyond matched. Our Cooper family was extremely supportive!”

Richardson said Cooper has raised over $10,000 for Pennies for Patients since 2015. Forrest Elementary School also participated this year and raised $1,029.
