Jazlyn Buchanan of Kecoughtan High School is winner of the 2nd District Congressional Art Competition

Jazlyn Buchanan, a senior at Kecoughtan High School, is the Peninsula regional winner of the 2nd district Congressional art competition. Jazlyn was recognized by Congresswoman Elaine Luria on May 15, 2022. Her artwork is entitled ‘Don't Look’ and is being displayed in Congresswoman Luria’s office for one year. Her art teacher is Madeline Brewer.

Each spring, a nationwide high school visual art competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since 1982 when the Artistic Discovery competition began, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol and also featured on the House.gov Congressional Art Competition page.

Congratulations to Jazlyn on this outstanding achievement and recognition.
