HCS recognizes National Foreign Language Week

National Foreign Language Week is celebrated March 7 through 12, 2021. Hampton City Schools offers a variety of language learning opportunities in French, German, Latin, and Spanish. Students can begin taking a world language as early as sixth grade and seventh grade for high school credit.

“Learning a second language has many benefits: improves memory, enhances decision making, improves a first language, improves performance in other academic areas, creates more job opportunities, and expands an individual’s network,” said Andrew Lloyd, curriculum leader for World Languages and English Language Learners.

Language learning entails more than just words, you learn about another culture, way of living, music and food, and increase your global awareness. There are between 6,000 and 7,000 languages in the world. Why stick to knowing just one?!
