Hampton School Board holds one-day working retreat

The Hampton School Board held a retreat on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, in the conference room of the Ruppert Sargent Building, 1 Franklin Street. The retreat was held in a safe, physical-distanced environment with each participant wearing a mask and additional safeguards in place such as desk shields.

The day began with the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator activity. Each Board member completed the assessment prior to the retreat. Heather Peterson, climate and culture director for HCS, led the activity.

The Board also reviewed and revised as necessary, their goals and the School Board & Superintendent Agreements and General Operating Procedures. These can be found here on the HCS website on the School Board page.

The Board viewed a one-hour Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) webinar entitled How School Boards Can Improve School Mental Health.

The Board discussed the superintendent evaluation documents and also decided to ask Paul Karhnak the student representative to the Board for 2019-2020 to continue in that position through 2020-2021. The Board was unable to select a new representative in April/May as they normally do because of schools and offices being closed due to COVID-19.
