Senior Picnic

Sheriff B.J. Roberts and the Hampton Sheriff’s Office sponsored the Fourth Annual Senior Citizens Picnic in May during Older Americans month. The senior citizens of Hampton look forward to the picnic each year and start their request for tickets in March. Beautiful Mill Point Park was the setting and sunny skies were the only requirement for a fun filled day on the waterfront at downtown Hampton.

300 senior citizens attended this years picnic to celebrate for three hours of fun, food, song and dance. The event was free as the Hampton Sheriff’s Office provided a complimentary picnic lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and baked beans. Plenty of cool lemonade kept smiles on their faces as elected officials’ from Hampton and surrounding areas joined Sheriff Roberts as they addressed the crowd. Each expressed their commitment and support for senior citizen programs and issues of concern.

The “Out of Line Dancers”, a senior line dancing team of 40 to 50 members from the Hampton Senior Center, provided lots of entertainment. Sheriff Roberts and several elected officials join the dancers to make for a lively afternoon and a nice work out after lunch.
