As Christmas is a particularly busy time of year, many seniors feel uneasy about going to the malls; too many crowds moving too fast. Hampton Sheriffs Office deputies escort a group of seniors for a day of shopping. The deputies provide protection, carry packages, and in some cases, help with decision-making. Besides the transportation and accompaniment, Sheriff Roberts provides lunch for the seniors. The shopping trip is an annual event for the department.
